Inspiration
We were deeply inspired by the sacrifices veterans make for our country. Many veterans face unique challenges such as managing medical treatments, rehabilitation, PTSD, and cognitive impairments. Our goal is to give back by helping veterans maintain a healthy, structured routine that supports their daily well-being.
What it does
MasterMind is a customizable alert system designed to assist users with daily reminders for essential activities such as waking up, taking medications, and exercising. It is built to serve veterans by offering scheduling features, medication tracking, and accessibility options, helping them manage tasks while improving their quality of life.
How we built it
MasterMind is powered by an Arduino board, which has been hardcoded to integrate features like customizable alarms and scheduling. We also built a user-friendly interface that is simple to set up, even for users with hearing or visual impairments. Additionally, we created a website using HTML and CSS that connects users to our system’s features. To further enhance accessibility, we integrated a chatbot powered by Azure AI. This chatbot helps users by answering questions and providing support in multiple languages, ensuring a seamless experience for veterans managing their daily routines.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was configuring the alarm system to increase the volume every fifteen seconds if not stopped, ensuring it’s loud enough. Debugging this feature required persistent testing and adjustments.

Working well as a team and utilizing all of our unique strengths and skills to effectively assign and designate tasks to create a well-rounded final product.
What we learned
We gained invaluable experience with hardware by working on the Arduino, building software through the creation of the website, and honing our presentation skills. We also learned how to consider accessibility and inclusivity in our design, especially for those with hearing and cognitive impairments.
What's next for MasterMind
MasterMind will constantly evolve and adapt new capabilities and ideas, progressing forward to help make a positive social change to continue improving the lives of veterans. Our future plans include integrating cloud-based AI for smarter, more responsive alerts and adding more advanced support for multiple languages. We’re excited about the potential for MasterMind to make an even greater impact.
