Inspiration
We were inspired by the Windows weather app. We saw that and came up with the idea to make one for Mars. It started off as a weather app but then it eventually evolved into more of a general site for information about Mars, with some fun things included!
What it does
- shows the weather on Mars via the NASA API
- information about geographical features / landings on Mars
- recommends how many sweaters you should wear and how much boba you should drink based on the temperature on Mars :)
How we built it
We used next.js.
Challenges we ran into
This was all of our first hackathons so we sort of had no idea what to expect. We struggled for hours to figure out our workflow. We originally started with only VS Code Live Share but it was impossible to test our code, since one person was sharing the server, so if anyone made a change that broke the server, no one was able to run their code. We thought this was the best approach since we thought if we used git and had everyone run their own copy of the server, we'd have to get all four of us to set up the server and we would run into merge conflicts, but turns out despite the downsides git was more efficient so we switched to git.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to fix some horrible merge conflicts :)
