maps.emissions

Inspiration

Car pollution is a large contributor to climate change (27% of carbon emissions are from transportation), and we wanted to create a tool to put that number into scope. If people think about their car's carbon emissions more, I won't get hit by one again.

What it does

Estimates the carbon emissions of a commute based on directions and gas mileage.

How we built it

maps.emissions was built in Godot engine and uses the Google Directions API. We used Express.js, Railway, and Google Domains to host the website.

What's next for maps.emissions

We think this would be a great feature to be implemented directly into Google Maps, so that users can better understand and compare their carbon impact.
