Mama Well

Inspiration 🎂

Inspired by the strong mothers around us, Mama Well is a postpartum care app that seeks to fill a crucial gap in women's health, catering to their needs during a vulnerable period. We aimed to leverage technology to make support more accessible and simplify self-care practices, ensuring that mothers receive the assistance and attention they deserve during their postpartum journey.

What it does 🥚

Some features include Mood/ Symptoms tracker. It is very important for those in the postpartum period to be aware of their emotions, along with their physical wellbeing. We believe that awareness is the first step in healing and we hope to bring that awareness to the users’ by checking in daily for their mood and symptoms, along with water intake (because staying hydrated is VERY important as well!). Additionally, this platform aims to provide the users with the convenience of being able to schedule appointments with gynecologists or doctors in a secure and convenient way.

How we built it 🔨

We first started brainstorming using the Figma Design Page. Doing a bit of research of what kind of vibe we want, even being careful with the font so that the users feel welcomed and just feel joyful using the application. It was really interesting to see how all four of us had our own unique designs but they were all on the same wavelength. Once we started, we decided to build a mobile app using react Native, particularly focusing on IOS devices. We also wanted to experiment with the Firebase user authentication system so we incorporated user login and sign up options to our application.

Challenges we ran into 🛑

Some challenges we ran into were figuring out how we can incorporate firebase into our app, along with figuring out how to route to different pages through react Native. None of us had used Firebase but with a little bit of our curiosity fueled by this hackathon, we ended up exploring firebase!

It was also a bit difficult to set up the Context API to use our states globally across the app, but we ended up figuring it out!

Accomplishments that we're proud of 🚀

We are really happy to have implemented so many of our designs into code. The designs are so so fun and colorful and we are really proud that we finished all of it in such a short amount of time. We are also really happy about how well we work with each other, and still support each other even while we are sleep deprived.

What we learned 💭

We definitely feel more comfortable using GitHub now! We also really got good at styling our frontend app because of the amount of different features the application had. Along with understanding how react native apps are routed .

What's next for Mama Well🤔

One thing we wanted to implement was to include a community forum where postpartum mothers are able to chat about their experiences and also share advice and encourage each other. We believe that especially for mothers who are in the postpartum stage, it makes it difficult for them to go out and socialize so we hope to expand our platform so that they have a safe space to share their experience and recover well! We also hoped to incorporate an AI Buddy for those who may feel uncomfortable getting advice from other individuals in case of being judged. In that case, we hope to build a JUDGEMENT FREE AI Buddy that will give you all the advice and support you need from it!
