Inspiration
The year is 1215, revolution has ended, the future is Web3 financial dashboards with blockchain integration now. After the king was a bit of a stinky-winky, his Barons wanted to restrict his god given right to rule over us and thus the Magna Carta was born. However, there was a need to spread the message.
What it does
It Drives and spreads the message of the Magna Karta.
Features:
- Fully functional 4 wheel drive
- Theoretical mobile iOS control
- Wireless keyboard controls
- Collision avoidance with ultrasound
- A slightly wobbly front left wheel
- Drag Reduction System
How we built it
- Box of Timberland's
- Electrical tape stolen from a large Spanish man
- Raspberry Pi
- 4 motors, LCD screen, ultrasound sensor, 8 AA batteries and a portable phone charger.
Challenges we ran into
- Not having done hardware before
- Pin numbers are stupid
- the LCD screen needs specific pins for some reason???????
- Eduroam is awful
- Pi for some reason had a non functioning hostname - had to get the IP every time, you know the thing that changes all the time. Working on someones hotspot, which would disconnect when they walked off.
- Thinking we blew up the SD card until we realised Windows is a non functional OS.
- Not bringing glue
- Not bringing 2 motor controllers
- The iOS app trying to control the car in a totally different way to the keyboard controls
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- It moves
- Small documentary
What we learned
- Bring 2 motor controllers - or send James on a 4 hour quest to the middle of London and back to go to our favorite sponsor of the event (video included)
- Hardware is way more fun
- Actually plan the protocol next time
What's next for Magna Karta
- Structural stability
- Glue
- Torque
Built With
- hope
- python
- raspberry-pi
- siwft
