MagicBot for Discord

  Type "!magic" or "!magica" in Discord chat to get a magic trick video!

Inspiration

We were inspired by the high abundance of entertainment-focused Discord Bots. We thought that a Discord Bot would be a good medium to entertain people with magic tricks and teach them how to perform these tricks.

What it does

It takes command through Discord chat and then shows you a random magic trick.

How we built it

We built it using the Java language and the JavaCord library.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first time we ever developed a Discord Bot. So we had to learn the Discord API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we could put out a project that we had so much fun with while also learning a useful API. We will definitely be using Discord API a lot more in the future.

What we learned

We essentially learned the basics of the Discord API. Also, we learned the JavaCord library.

What's next for MagicBot for Discord

We plan to add new categories. For example, a '''!magic card''' command will bring up card tricks; '''!magic dangerous''' will bring up a seemingly dangerous trick, etc. Also, we plan to add a button to go to the tutorial of the trick if it exists.
