Lyra helps teenage girls that suffer from sleep inertia and other sleep-related issues establish healthy sleep routines. By facilitating refreshing transitions between sleep and wake, Lyra functions as both a sleep aid device, an alarm, and a bedroom decoration. Users of Lyra are able to set a time range in which they hope to wake up, and then Lyra utilises data on the user’s sleep in real time to determine what time the user should wake up to achieve maximum wellbeing of sleep. If the user does not receive much sleep, Lyra will set the alarm to the latest time at which the user desires to wake up at and vice versa. Lyra gently rouses the user by slowly increasing the brightness of light in a colour that stimulates a peaceful morning environment, paired with soothing sounds derived from nature, such as birdsong. Lyra also allows users to easily drift into sleep by slowly dimming the light at a colour that facilitates sleep, with background noise of the user’s preference. Lastly, Lyra functions as a room decoration, as its flower form emulates nature, which has been scientifically proven to promote happiness, and enhances the aesthetic of the room in which it is placed. Lyra is paired with an easy-to-use application that allows the user to adjust the wake-up time range and various functions that can be personalised, as well as view a record of the quality of their sleep and sleeping patterns.
