Inspiration
I am a sophomore in High School, and this is my first Hackathon. I was inspired to create this app because of Islamophobia. I think Islamophobia being used to attack innocent people is inappropriate and should be stopped.
What it does
The app informs users what Islamophobia is, where it takes place, and how to handle a situation involving it. It also provides a list of organizations who are trying to help stop Islamophobia and a feedback page for thoughts on how you would handle Islamophobia, your experience with the app, and other organizations I could add to the list on the Organizations Section.
How I built it
I built it using Swift through Xcode. I also used Canva to create the graphics and visuals and Firebase to store user inputs.
Challenges I ran into
I wasn't able to participate in one of Technica's events called How to Scrape Twitter to Monitor Hate Speech. This event was sponsored by Fifth Tribe & America Indivisible, and I feel like I missed a lot from not attending the session. This missing information made me feel unprepared and doubt my idea. I also had trouble with creating the Cloud Firestore, but I solved it soon after.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of the app I created and designed. I like my idea on how to spread awareness of Islamophobia, and I'm glad I was given the idea through Technica.
What I learned
I learned what Islamophobia is and how much it affects Muslims in person and on the internet. I also learned how to deal with it online. I also relearned how to use Firebase.
What's next for Love4Muslims
I was hoping to create a social media platform where I could share positive messages about Muslims and Islam. I also want to add more features to the app such change the design to make it look more professional and eye appealing.
