Inspiration
I wanted to make a dating sim where every character was me - but then I realized I was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers with that idea. So I just made chess but with AI !!!
What it does
It goes viral on Twitter. It’s chess, but you can romance anime-girl pieces. Each one has random personality traits and can refuse to move if you don’t treat her right. If trust and love drop enough (e.g. trust below a threshold), she can switch color and join the opponent.
How we built it
I vibe-coded the single-player version first; it was too fast, so I added LAN multiplayer with a chat system. I’d actually buy this on Steam.
Challenges we ran into
The voice chat works only half of the time cause I ran out of credits.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’d never combined WebSockets and voice (TTS) before. The LAN also had to be tested, so I did some network configs as well as creating a separate VM to simulate a second laptop.
What we learned
I had a lot of fun and now I don't need to larp on my resume by saying that I am proficient in real-time voice systems and websockets
What's next for love-is-chess
I would actually post it on twitter(host it online) or steam if I get some money. The game is very playable and bait potential
