Loop is a trust-powered community exchange app for shared living spaces, built around a very real Madison tradition: Hippie Christmas. Every move-out season, perfectly usable furniture, appliances, and household essentials pile up on curbs - while people just a few blocks away go buy the exact same items new. The result is waste, chaos, and missed opportunities to share.

Loop turns that curbside free-for-all into a safe, accountable in-app exchange. Residents can post offers and requests in a live “Hallway” feed, claim items, and coordinate pickup through post-specific chat. They can also contribute to a shared building “Vault” inventory, where borrowing is karma-gated so higher-value items require higher trust.

To keep exchanges fair and abuse-resistant, Loop pushes trust-critical logic server-side in Supabase: borrow/return state transitions, karma minting, return verification tokens, and idempotency safeguards that prevent double rewards. An optional AI layer using Google Vision speeds up listings with suggested item names, categories, condition, and a rough price range - while keeping final decisions in users’ hands.
