Inspiration
We were inspired by platforms like Be My Eyes, where volunteers assist blind individuals with everyday tasks such as reading medication labels. This sparked the idea to create both a hyper-local and global community-driven app that encourages people to help one another in meaningful ways.
What it does
Loop is a mobile app that connects people who need help with those willing to offer it—whether it’s running errands, lending supplies, or providing academic support. Users can post or accept requests in real time, filter them by categories such as groceries, academics, or volunteering, and track who they’ve helped or been helped by. Built with React Native, Firebase, and OpenStreetMap, Loop fosters a trusted, community-driven network that makes helping others as simple as sending a message—closing the loop between those in need and those ready to help.
How we built it
We built Loop using React Native, Agora, Firebase, and APIs such as OpenStreetMap. Figma was used to design the user interface and plan the overall app experience.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up voice and video calling in a mobile app proved far more challenging than we expected. It required us to move away from our original plan of using Expo Go, forcing us to explore unfamiliar territory and adapt quickly to new development workflows.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the unexpected challenges, we’re proud of the final product we created and the wide range of features we were able to implement. Overcoming technical obstacles and still delivering a functional, user-friendly app was a major accomplishment for our team.
What we learned
We learned that the motivation to build something with real impact can drive us further than we ever imagined. This project was intense, but it taught us how much we can achieve when we’re passionate and collaborative.
What's next for Loop
We plan to continue refining Loop, polishing every detail to ensure users enjoy a smooth and rewarding experience. With more features and improvements, we hope to inspire even more people to connect, share, and help one another within their communities.
