Inspiration
LooHunt’s idea came from a personal need. When we went to some remote areas in Ontario during the summer, the closest washroom we found online was 30 minutes away. Finding a washroom became a huge concern. When I talked to my friends, I realized that many had faced the same issue due to public washroom closures in the lockdown. According to The Globe And Mail, "lockdowns highlight a lack of public restrooms in Canadian cities," and The Guardian reported that lockdown has caused a loo crisis. Thus, LooHunt makes finding washrooms simple and faster.
What it does
LooHunt locates public washrooms near the user, and provides information about its address, accessibility, cleanliness review, baby changing tables, and more.
How we built it
We used JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and Google Maps JavaScript API.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we faced was importing GeoJSON data on our map since it was my first time utilizing maps.
What we learned
This was my first time using an API, and by using the Maps JavaScript API, I learned how to leverage APIs for a project in general and more specifically, I got familiar with Google's Maps and Routes APIs.
What's next for LooHunt
As we continue to develop the project, we will add a review option so the user can review the washroom as clean or not clean. We will have filters such as free or payable, availability of sanitary napkins for females, etc. We will also have soothing music to play along, voice recognition for searching, and tips like looking out for bugs or washing hands.
