Inspiration
Teen addiction in America can take many forms, from substance abuse to digital addiction, but one of the more troubling trends is the rise in addiction to screens—smartphones, social media, and video games—where it's not just about the time spent, but the impact it has on mental health and development. Our group wanted a way to curb this issue without removing smartphones from our lives entirely; as they are essential devices in today's fast paced society.
What it does
Our app has a built in timer that disables your phone, forcing you to do something productive. You can set your screen time limit, after which the timer begins. Every time you exit the website, you will lose 10 coins. However, you gain 20 coins every day you limit your screen time. We realized that rewarding our users is more effective than punishing them when they're tempted to scroll longer.
How we built it:
Backend: C#, Frontend: Unity
Challenges we ran into
- Staying focused
- Merge conflicts -Gamifiying our concept -Deciding what language to use ## Accomplishments that we're proud of We managed to create a functional app that can easily be mass produced. ## What we learned Procrastination really limited our overall progress, and hindered our work ethic. ## What's next for Lock Saver Coding a more advanced model that can be used for tablets and laptops that can also be compatible with different operating systems, such as Mac, Windows, and Linux.
