Inspiration

We enjoy listen to music and with Covid and such, its been pretty rough on local musicians. We wanted a way for you to find musicians in your area to support them when in-person is more available, but also find artists in your area to support they music digitally.

What it does

This project allows users to click an area on a map and have it display all local musicians in a 50 mile radius. In addition to this, it allows artists to easily create their own profile to be added to the map.

How we built it

We built it using python Flask as the app engine behind the operation. In addition to this, we used Google Cloud to host the server and data as well as the Google Maps API to allow a more user friendly experience.

Challenges we ran into

Since we were designing a webpage, that would rely greatly on HTML and such scripting. Only one of us had good experience in that so that limited our ability to understand limits and expectations for the project. However, we tried our best to counter this by writing the back-end with skeletons for input and one of our members started learning HTML to make the profile page.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the amount of work that we were able to accomplish in the time given. For most of us, we were learning all new skills at the competition, which while it did limit work speed, it gave us an invaluable experience. We are very proud that we were able to accomplish most of what we set out to do. Initially we thought we bit off more than we could chew, but overall, it turned out great.

What we learned

In terms of technical skills, we learned Google Cloud Services, some HTML, and Flask with python. Other than that, we formed stronger friendships and learned a lot about team communication and workflow management.

What's next for Local Audio Space

Next, we hope to add persistent information with their profile so it will keep their information and can edit it rather than creating a new one. This would allow for an even better UX and make the site more polished. Link the app engine to a domain name
