Inspiration
As programmers we understand the importance of coffee at the right temperature. We were tired of burning our tongues on too hot coffee.
What it does
Measures the temperature of any liquid and continuously updates an app that will alert you when it's at the temperature you consider ideal.
How we built it
We used a temperature sensor connected to an Arduino, which is connected to a WiFi access point and sends it's data to a FireBase Database. An Android app listens to the database and alerts the user when the temperature they've selected has been reached. A LCD displays the current temperature at the location of the coffee cup.
Challenges we ran into
Finding a submersible temperature sensor, along with, lack of experience in Android development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Using FireBase to create our first IoT device and making the world a safer place for coffee drinkers.
What we learned
How to filter temperature data so it's more stable, how to use FireBaseUI, project architecture, how to work with engineers from various disciplines.
What's next for liquidfire
Refine the Android app, add features that make the sensor useful for a wider variety of things (e.g. grilling).
