After one of our co-founders wanted to start learning Korean, he realized current language learning platforms were outdated and didn't let him practice his conversation skills. Lingual fixes that by letting you practice real conversations with an AI that listens, responds naturally, and gives instant feedback on your pronunciation, tone, and grammar. With our mascot Lingu guiding the experience, learners get the confidence to talk to a native speaker anytime, without the pressure. We created basic HTML and CSS pages for the different quizzes and deployed them with Live Server. We then switched to Flask for better runtime results. We made the interactivity, like buttons and sliders, with Javascript embedded inside the HTML. We used Python to interface with the OpenAI api that we used. Our GitHub branches became corrupted, and we couldn't push or pull files correctly. This took us about two hours to fix, and we lost valuable time because we couldn't add to the repository while this problem was happening. We also had some trouble hosting the website because of the differences between Live Server and Flask. The file names for the different pages of our website stopped working when we switched to Flask. We integrated the AI model into our code, which took a very long time. It was hard work to connect the api within our code, and we ran into a lot of issues working with Git. We learned how to connect the frontend and backend of a website together. We also learned how to collaborate effectively and manage our time in a productive way. If we receive funding from Crab Hacks Combinator, we hope to integrate other languages into our platform and expand our reach through various marketing strategies. In the long term, we envision Lingual as a common classroom occurrence, where foreign language teachers assign homework to speak with Lingual. Alongside this, we are considering the possibility of integrating our platform into other existing language learning models, but this is very context-dependent.
