Inspiration
As someone who has been trying to learn a language for a year, I find it hard to converse in the language despite having completed many courses. I also find it hard to maintain streaks on apps, despite getting multiple reminders on my phone. Hence, I thought of an app that can pair me with native speakers who can help me correct my language and hold conversations with me, as well as streaking with friends (like Snapchat), where peer pressure keeps me going.
What it does
- Learning in a fun way, through adventure map formats
- Exercises: videos and quizzes to aid with comprehension of the language when used in conversational scenarios
- Connect and chat with native speakers and correct each others’ language use
How we built it
We designed the app with Adobe XD
Challenges we ran into
This is the first time we used Adobe XD, and second time attending a hackathon, so many things were still new to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of + what we learned
Learning how to use Adobe XD from scratch! Definitely an achievement :)
What's next for Lingua
Apart from the ones mentioned in the video, we can also have ‘coins’ earned through completing lessons and chatting with other users, which can be used to buy outfits for in-app avatars, to incorporate more game features and make learning more fun
