Inspiration

We originally struggled a lot during our ideation phase to come up with an understanding of the prompt that we could effectively build. We settled on an investment platform as that was a concrete idea related to the selected track that also fit with our skill level.

What it does

Our application allows users to invest in companies listed in the top 100 ESG scores. This is to promote investing in sustainable companies and their initiatives to benefit the world as per United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

How we built it

We built our application by first creating a figma design to plan what the pages will roughly look like and what information and features we need from the backend. After figuring out how to configure an express.js app to be compatible with our chosen hosting platform, Vercel, we began developing a backend with endpoints that would retrieve information from our database and pass it on to the user.

Challenges we ran into

As this was largely a learning experience for us, we had many difficulties with setting up the intricate aspects of the express app as creating consistently working GET and POST routes was confusing to begin with, however became easier with time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team we are very proud of our growth and development in the different aspects of web development we chose to specialise in. One of our greatest accomplishments on the backend was creating a functional API that would retrieve data from our database.

What we learned

We learned the basics and complexities of web development and started our journey of learning a field of programming that is very different to the python development we had known prior.
