Inspiration

LiftLink’s inspiration is our drive for sustainability. People will always need to commute to work, and it is not always feasible for everyone to rely on public transport or environmentally friendly alternatives. This project aims to make the carpooling option more accessible, and give people the agency to take control of their commute and emissions. We are also aware of reduced access to local community in recent decades and hope this project can connect people too.

What it does

The main functionality of this project is that users can sign up, and LiftLink will find people within a certain radius of the new user. The user would have also been able to message the people in their areas to organise the carpool.

How we built it

We used sqlite3 with Python to store all the user information. We used the Google Maps API to find the distance between addresses.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled figuring out the client-server code for the chat rooms. We managed to get parts working, but was not enough to incorporate it into the main projects.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to get the API working and generate the Links based on the user address. We were not available for the whole 24 period, and still managed to get a prototype working.

What's next for LiftLink

Institutions can join the app and can give out special code to people, so that people from the organization can link to carpool together to the instituition.
