Inspiration

Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator - A dark humour sci-fi trading simulator where you speculate the value of an alien baby as it's life is simulated. We thought we could do this as a way to teach young people how to achieve good financial decisions.

What it does

It is a website where you play by starting your financial life today! Watch in real time as others (random maths) speculate your worth, make good decisions? Rise up! Bad ones? Someone in fictional stock trading land is getting an extra shift at Macdonald's tonight

How we built it

We used a basic express http server to serve the page almost entirely in Javascript.

Challenges we ran into

Javascript.

In other words, we ran into several issues regarding concurrency and time, the stopwatch was a particular headache. Another issue was asynchronicity, where events would misfire due to poorly placed activations and promises.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The stock ticker looks realistic, the momentum based update protocol causes your value to 'ride the wave' and crash into the rock beach.

What we learned

Real time apps in javascript, as everything updates in real time and integration testing. Games are difficult to unit test like your standard CRUD, so we had to manually adjust variables as part of testing.
