💡 Inspiration
Our inspiration came from FIU's passion for hospitality and the potential of blockchain technology to empower individuals through decentralized solutions. FIU's commitment to creating welcoming, user-centric environments sparked our desire to build a project that prioritizes ease of use and accessibility, ensuring that anyone can engage with blockchain technology. We wanted to create a solution that not only addresses common challenges in decentralized finance (DeFi) and digital ownership but also makes blockchain more approachable and user-friendly. With Ethereum's capabilities and tools like SpeedRunEthereum and Scaffoldeth, we saw an opportunity to innovate and provide real value in the Web3 space, embodying both technological advancement and the hospitality ethos of FIU.
💻 What it does Our project offers a decentralized platform that simplifies asset management and secure transactions in a fully decentralized environment. By leveraging smart contracts and Ethereum's blockchain, users can manage digital assets, participate in DeFi activities, and ensure full control and security over their transactions without relying on intermediaries.
👷 How we built it The project was developed using TypeScript for type-safe programming, and React combined with Next.js to create a seamless user interface. For the blockchain side, we leveraged Scaffoldeth as a foundation and SpeedRunEthereum for rapid prototyping, supported by Hardhat for smart contract development and testing. SQLite was used for lightweight data storage, while IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) enabled decentralized storage of files. We integrated the MetaMask API to ensure smooth user interaction with the Ethereum blockchain, providing secure wallet connections and transactions.
🛑 Challenges we ran into One of the biggest challenges we faced was the time-consuming process of minting the NFTs, which took nearly 14 hours due to the complexity of the workflow and integration issues. Additionally, getting accustomed to the diverse tech stack we were using—ranging from Scaffoldeth and SpeedRunEthereum to React and IPFS—proved to be more challenging than we initially anticipated. Each tool required a steep learning curve, and integrating them all into a seamless workflow took significant effort. However, through persistence and teamwork, we managed to overcome these hurdles and complete the project successfully.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of We're incredibly proud of how we overcame technical hurdles to build a decentralized solution that is both secure and easy to use. We’re also proud of the integration of Scaffoldeth to accelerate our development process, allowing us to prototype and iterate quickly. Most importantly, we’re excited about creating a solution that has real-world potential and can make a tangible difference in how people interact with decentralized applications.
🔒 What we learned Throughout the development process, we learned a lot about the intricacies of smart contract development, decentralized architecture, and Ethereum’s ecosystem. We also gained a deeper understanding of user experience design in the context of blockchain, where security and simplicity must go hand in hand. This project taught us the value of adaptability and innovation in overcoming technical challenges.
🚀 What's next for LevelUp Next, we plan to further refine the platform by improving its scalability and adding more advanced features to enhance its functionality. We also aim to explore partnerships and integrations with other blockchain ecosystems to broaden the reach of our decentralized solution. Ultimately, we envision LevelUp as a go-to platform for decentralized asset management, empowering more people to engage confidently in the world of Web3.
