Inspiration
Our team received a message from 2072 where all the corporations have formed a huge megacorp and every part of a person's life has become a data point. As a result, people have lost empathy for each other, valuing possessions over communication.
In 2023, LET IT GrOw! was launched as a way to create a new path forward letting people focus on their inner selves while contributing to a whole.
What it does
The first LET IT GrOw prototype is an art installation ideal for use in a festival space. A participant wears an ArcTop OpenBCI headband a pair of ThinkReality AR glasses. The headset registers your emotions and the wearer is walked through a series of prompts designed to help them get in touch with their emotions.
How we built it
The project was built in Unity before interfaces with SnapDragon spaces. We used a series of free assets including particle systems and 3D modeled the Reality Hack Logo for this event. The audio was recorded using Apple Voice Memos.
Challenges we ran into
Onboarding was one of our biggest challenges. For a while, we were stuck in the 2072 future where we imagined this technology was prevalent and we didn't account for the handholding needed to acclimate a 2023 user to the experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of the fact that we have been able to combine so many technologies into a narrative that fits the theme of the hackathon. We think the use of AR technology for an in-person event and experience given the events of the last 3 years was a particularly good use of the theme.
What we learned
We had a team that complimented each other's talents and I think we all learned something from each other and we also learned a bit about scaling.
What's next for LET IT GrOw!
There are a few things on our mind at the moment:
- We want to test this with some users. However, we would need to likely translate the technology since none of us have a ThinkReality headset.
- Ideally we would like to create a product roadmap that allows the festival scenario we created to ultimately become more personal and create a more mindful experience.
- Continue to research, improve the effects, and find collaborators that might want to work with us to implement installations at their events.
In the development of this first iteration, we have taken many design affordances. We are hoping to continue applying those affordance and exploring ways this could be used to build a healthier, more accessible, and fun future.
