Inspiration
We were inspired by environmental conservation and wanting to teach others about the impact of the climate
What it does
We have a scrollable website that informs users about how the climate has been like through the ages until the present day. And then for the future we have predicted deforestation rates, sea level rise and our future predictions.
How we built it
- Python - dataset processing and creating chloropleth maps, graphs for deforestation rates
- HTML, JavaScript, CSS - website design
Challenges we ran into
- One challenge is that certain countries are not showing up on the choloropleth map even though their is data is present on the dataset. To combat this for Brazil for example we have created a graph for predicted deforestation rates and data from the dataset
- Another challenge was implementing functions in JavaScript
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Using libraries in Python to create linear regression models, graphs and maps
- Creating a user friendly and informative website
- Finding and implementing equations into the website for sea level rise
What we learned
- Learnt more about dataframes and processing data in python
- For some of us , we didn't have that much experience in JavaScript so we learnt how to use this language
What's next for TempProject
- Use AI instead of statistical models to predict future scenarios
- We would like to predict data for natural weather disasters such as hurricanes in order to understand more about the frequency of these.
