Description
Plaito is an artificial intelligence tool that makes studying more personalized and engaging through interactive tutoring sessions handled by Plaito itself. Plaito consistently keeps track of a student’s long-term progress and adjusts to the student’s needs, making sure the student improves in every way possible every time.
Tutorial for Use
- Choose the feature you’d like to access (homework, essay writer, summarizer, or textbook chat).
- Choose the file of material you have to study and wait for Plaito to load the information so that it can give you comments.
- Ask a question or make a comment regarding the schoolwork that Plaito extracted.
Impacts on Learning
Personalized Tutoring
Plaito is designed to revolutionize the learning experience by taking on the role of a dedicated tutor that adjusts to the student’s specific need and pace when learning, thereby making the process more engaging and effective. By having a tutor on constant standby, students have the means to study with a tool that will teach at the student’s pace, unlike traditional classroom settings where a student might feel shy or embarrassed to ask academic questions.
Unmonitored and Unorganized Studying with Plaito
Without this use case, students are left to study difficult material unmonitored and unsure of their specific areas of improvement, which gives most students the excuse to slack off and be inconsistent with studying, which can lead to an unorganized method of studying. Not having Plaito also gives stunts a false sense of confidence because they are not fully aware of their strengths and weaknesses in given subjects and have to rely on themselves to improve without knowing where or how to do so.
The Uniqueness of Plaito
Compared to other AI, the level of personalization Plaito possesses is unique to itself. ChatGPT, for example, may keep track of the questions and prompts you input, but the improvements and recommendations it offers are general and unspecific to the user. Other AIs have a similar problem of generality, but Plaito, on the other hand, keeps track of the user’s learning material, how they write, their strengths and weaknesses, and adjusts to better assist the improvement of the student. Not only can Plaito adjust to the student, but Plaito also offers feedback specific to the student.
Limitations & Ethical Considerations
Features Need Further Development
Because the Plaito site is relatively new, there are certain features, such as the study partner tool, the textbook chat feature, and the call feature, that are either not accessible yet or need further development. The textbook chat feature in particular might take multiple troubleshoots for the AI to download and extract text from the materials uploaded.
Misunderstanding of Human Creativity
Plaito may have difficulty comprehending any form of creative output, like songs, poems, and personal essays. Although Plaito can still be used to edit these creative works, it is important to note that trying to edit these creative works with Plaito often dilutes the originality of the work and makes the end product sound robotic and detached.
Word Limit
The synthesizing tool has a word count limit of 3000, which can make this tool inefficient in synthesizing long readings completely. Additionally, at a certain point, the synthesizing tool may generate redundant results.
Threat of Dependency
There is a threat of dependency when it comes to the content generated. Although Plaito cannot generate entire texts with a given prompt like ChatGPT, the AI can edit any existing work given to it, and there is nothing on the site that prevents a student from copying the refined output generated by Plaito. For example, you could give a crudely done essay to Plaito, and it would generate a newly refined essay. Because nothing is stopping a student from copying what Plaito generated, a student can grow dependent on Plaito to do all their written assignments for them. In order to avoid this dependency, it is suggested to utilize Plaito's features, which provide personalized comments and suggestions to help the student improve holistically, rather than relying on AI to do all the work for them.
