Inspiration
The gender digital divide is an issue that affects a lot of women and is an issue that needs to be fixed. Although I am not affected directly by it, I believe it is very important that women across the world have equal access to technology as men.
What it does
The website includes three different lessons on different aspects of technology that follow a fun story based on a character. Through these lessons, you learn information and answer questions to reveal the next part of the story. It is a fun and interactive way to teach women that may be stuck when learning about technology.
How I built it
I built Learning Literacy with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges I ran into
Having to create the stories was quite challenging, I wanted each girl to be unique and someone to whom people could relate too. Also, at some parts, the code just would not work, but taking a break and a deep breath and looking it over helped me see things I didn't see before and fix the bug.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I was able to complete the project. This is my first major website project and being able to say, "I did it," makes me proud. Being able to overcome challenges is a major accomplishment, I think that Learning Literacy helps reflect the overcoming inequalities and that women can learn and that they will learn.
What I learned
I learned that it is important to take your time and to really build on an idea you're passionate about. At first, I wanted to dive right into this project because I was so excited about the idea, but I soon realized that you need to create a plan to produce a quality project.
What's next for Learning Literacy
Adding more stories is my next step to improving Learning Literacy. There are so many different topics out there about technology to teach. I also would be interested in creating Learning Literacy into an app, I feel that way it would be more accessible.
