Inspiration

LayNote was inspired by the shared frustration of long layovers and the uncertainty of what to do with the downtime. As frequent travelers, we realized the lack of tools that simplify finding meaningful activities during these pauses in travel. Whether it's exploring local attractions, discovering airport amenities, or simply finding a good spot to relax, we wanted to create a solution that turns layovers into exciting opportunities rather than dull waits.

What it does

LayNote provides users with a curated list of activities and points of interest tailored to their layover location and time.

How we built it

We developed LayNote using the following tools and technologies:

Frontend: Built with React for a responsive and intuitive user interface.

Backend: Python with FastAPI to handle data processing and APIs. We used Llama 3.1 as the LLM to power the application.

APIs: Integrated location-based services and airline APIs to fetch relevant layover data.

Challenges we ran into

API Limitations: Finding reliable and affordable APIs for real-time airport and attraction data was challenging.

Time Management: Balancing feature implementation with a strict 24-hour timeline required careful prioritization.

User Experience: Designing an interface that is both engaging and easy to use under the constraints of limited time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating live airport data and nearby attraction suggestions.

What we learned

Enhanced our knowledge of React, API integration, and user-centric design principles.

What's next for LayNote

Expanding the range of activities and integrating more detailed filters for personalized recommendations. Partnering with airports, airlines, and local businesses to provide exclusive offers for users.
