Inspiration
Because many language-learning applications are geared towards a specific kind of user, we wanted to make an application that takes into account people's various affinities for different methods of learning.
What it does
The app asks the user a series of questions to discern their learning type, then recommends them language-learning exercises based on their learning type. The user is free to switch between these types to find the one which best suits them.
How we built it
We built this app using Flutter, written in Dart. Original art and other assets were all created using Clip Studio Paint. Prototyping was done in Figma, while testing was done using Android Studio emulators. A few free icons created by Kiranshastry, Roundicons, and Freepik were used for the learner quiz result pages.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up flutter was challenging and Kacey's computer had issues with memory and Android Studio. The learning curve for Dart and Flutter was quite steep. We lack experience in handling user data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting flutter to work, getting the application to look mostly the way we want it to.
What we learned
How to use Flutter & Dart, how to prototype (on Figma and on paper), how to set up an emulator using Android Studio.
What's next for Language Like You
Continuing development and furthering our skills in Dart & Flutter.
