🌱 Inspiration We’ve seen how mountain and smallholder coffee farmers put their hearts into their work, yet face endless hurdles—tracking harvests in notebooks that get lost, struggling to find buyers, and not knowing if their crops are healthy until it’s too late. We wanted to create something simple, smart, and accessible… a hub that puts digital tools in the hands of farmers, not just big corporations. That’s how Kahawa Hub was born—brewed with technology, sustainability, and a whole lot of passion! ☕💚

🚀 What it does Kahawa Hub is a digital sidekick for coffee farmers. With just a browser (even on a basic smartphone), farmers can: ✍️ Create a farmer profile with name & location. 📊 Log every harvest—date, quantity, plot, and quality notes. 🛒 Sell coffee or byproducts directly in the marketplace. 🤖 Run a mock AI check on coffee leaf/bean photos for possible health issues. 🌍 Encourage sustainability by turning waste into valuable products and sharing eco-friendly practices.

🛠️ How we built it Frontend: HTML + Tailwind CSS for a clean, mobile-friendly design. Logic: Pure JavaScript to manage interactions and data. Storage: LocalStorage so farmers can even use it offline for the prototype. Hosting: GitHub Pages for easy access from anywhere. Design thinking: Kept it lightweight for low-bandwidth areas while ensuring it’s still visually appealing and easy to use.

😅 Challenges we ran into Making multi-page navigation work flawlessly both offline and online. Designing an AI mock that feels believable but runs entirely in the browser. Ensuring consistent UI across all pages without losing simplicity. Balancing features with performance so it’s fast even on basic devices.

🏆 Accomplishments we’re proud of Built a fully working multi-page prototype that feels like a real platform. Created a farmer-friendly interface with zero learning curve. Integrated an offline-capable mock AI for crop health checks. Hosted live on GitHub Pages so anyone can try it right now.

📚 What we learned How to link and sync data across multiple pages with LocalStorage. The power of clean navigation and design consistency. How to design for low-resource environments without losing usability. The importance of clear communication between features for a smoother farmer experience.

🔮 What’s next for Kahawa Hub 🌐 Supabase integration for real-time, multi-device sync. 🧠 Real AI crop health detection using machine learning models. 💬 Direct chat system between farmers and buyers. 🌏 Multi-language support for farmers across different regions. 📱 SMS/USSD version for farmers without smartphones.
