Inspiration
As a half-Korean who didn’t grow up speaking Korean, I’ve always struggled to sing along to my favorite K-pop songs. Many international K-pop fans face similar challenges — most music platforms don’t offer romanized lyrics, making it harder to truly participate. At the same time, the live cheering experience — being surrounded by thousands of fans chanting together at concerts — is something incredibly joyful yet often out of reach due to time, cost, and distance. I created K-PULSE to bring that collective, exhilarating cheering experience to fans everywhere, making it easier for anyone, regardless of language or location, to record, live, and relive their support for their favorite idols — with cheers and more accessible translations.
What it does
K-PULSE lets K-pop fans record their cheers, relive their fan moments, and live the energy of a real stage performance — anywhere, anytime. Fans can browse albums and artists, record personalized cheers with live-stage video and fan chant support, and save their cheers into a personal collection. K-PULSE also brings extra fun with random song challenges and an immersive listening mode that recreates the pulse of K-pop concerts. By bridging cultural, language, and distance barriers, K-PULSE makes the cheering experience truly accessible to every fan worldwide.
How we built it
I built this project solo using Figma, designing the full user journey — from wireframes to interactive prototypes. Throughout the process, I focused on balancing aesthetics, user intuition, and accessibility to create smooth navigation across pages and deliver an immersive fan experience.
Challenges I ran into
Since this was my first time completing a full Figma project, many tools and workflows were new to me. I faced challenges with page navigation, interaction design, button accessibility, and maintaining visual consistency across the project. Managing time and energy was also difficult, especially while working solo and recovering from illness during the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of not just conceptualizing, but fully realizing a complete, functional prototype within tight time constraints. I’m especially proud that I could turn a personal challenge into a real, tangible design aimed at enhancing the global K-pop fan experience.
What we learned
Through this project, I became much more confident in using Figma — not just technically, but in understanding how to design thoughtfully for real users. I learned the importance of balancing visual appeal, intuition, and accessibility in every decision, and how each choice shapes the user experience.
What's next for K-PULSE
Looking ahead, I hope to add real audio upload features, build even more immersive live-stage environments, deepen interaction designs to improve accessibility, and continue refining the UI. Eventually, I aim to collaborate with engineers to turn K-PULSE into a fully functional app — bringing this experience to K-pop fans around the world.
