Inspiration

There are over 76.5 million Americans that completely lack dental insurance. And in fact, even those that have Medicaid do not receive comprehensive coverage. Over 50% of Americans only go to the dentist in case of an emergency, with most of them being from low-income households. In total, untreated oral disease costs Americans $45 billion in lost economic productivity each year.

What it does

To address this problem, our team developed JustSmile, an innovative smartphone app that improves the early detection and management of oral diseases while empowering patients to take an active role in their oral health. Using images taken from their camera, patients can receive **immediate feedback** on the status of their oral health. The uploaded images are sent through a machine learning algorithm that can detect any visible oral disease.

How we built it

We built this app using FlutterFlow and Flutter for the actual design of the app. We used Google Cloud Firebase for the data collection and user authentication of our system. We used TensorFlow to develop our Machine Learning algorithm and deploy that without our app.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges as not all members of our team are advanced coders. However, we were able to put our skills together to learn from each other and work together to accomplish our goals
