Inspiration
Needing a pick-me-up during the day, applications where little critters live on your desktop
What it does
Talks too you and says nice things, cute animations
How we built it
We used Java and built it with our own mini-framework created during this hackathon from scratch
Challenges we ran into
We at first tried to use PlayCanvas but we had some issues with it, concerned with issues with Unity some of our team members have experienced in the past we decided to build it from the ground up.
Building the framework was the biggest challenge, as well as using Java awt to paint our character with the correct orientations, positions, and proportions of all its parts
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a framework that allows us to have relative transforms for any object we wish to put into our scene, its quite robust and you could really make a little game out of it, it even has some creature comforts other game engines have like recursively searching through the tree for child objects.
What we learned
We probably should have used unity for this short period of time for what we wanted to accomplish, or another game engine more well established
