a. What is the problem your solution addresses?

We decided to choose the well-being track for our project. After doing some research, we realized that many college-aged students (ages 18-24) are fond of writing to organize and express their feelings, especially as this age group deals with increasingly high rates of mental health issues. However, many individuals are daunted by the idea of journaling and are confused about where to start or how it might help them. This is where a more guided approach would be helpful, and Jot comes in!

b. Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

Our app, Jot, is a journaling app allowing users to fully fit their needs. Jot’s primary feature is focused journaling in many areas, including anxiety, confidence, gratitude, etc. and providing daily prompts aligning with these areas for users to answer in each respective journal. An unprompted option is also offered. When registering, the user can set daily reminder notifications at their chosen time. Their “streak” is shown in their dashboard. As their streak gets higher, more customizable items for their journals become unlocked. Users can choose to type, record voice, write with a stylus, add images, and change page settings as they like. Before and after a journaling session, the user is asked to record their mood. This information is found with all past journal entries on the calendar page.

While there are many journaling apps already, Jot is comprehensive and tailors to the user, giving anyone a well-rounded experience.
