Inspiration

My community experiences all sorts of socio-economic issues such as drug abuse, crime and an overall toxic environment, but the issue the honestly affects us the most is the severe lack of jobs or rather high unemployment. Most people in my area get by on piece jobs(un-skilled, heavy-labour jobs) that last anywhere from an hour to three days and though this situation might not ideal in the eyes of most, the abundance of uneducated and unskilled people has left them without many options. Though this project might be able to educate the community in that sense just yet, it will at least solve issue of job fruitless job hunting by readily making them available through their mobile devices, like linkedin but more inclusive.

What it does

The project uses GPS API's and recommendation AI algorithms to not only find the nearest job from the user, but also suggest it based on the user's history and experience. What sets this job tracker app apart from the rest is that this one is more focused on providing awareness and opportunity to those whose resume's would otherwise make them ashamed or discouraged from applying to the post through any other platform. It does this by advertising all sorts of posts from low to no skill jobs which depending on the job poster could take as little as an hour, to highly skilled jobs that could last as long as the employer needs.

How we built it

the application will start off as simple web application for now then move onto an app that will work offline

Challenges we ran into

Technical difficulties due to outdated equipment, thus a failure to upload a prototype

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The idea and promise of such an application was warmly received by our focus group and its launch is anticipated by most, if not the whole community.

What we learned

A lot more internal work needs to be done, in terms of upgrading equipment to more readily supply the product.

What's next for Job Scout

The app is a basic one with basic features, but will soon feature an in-app newsboard and will sport a simple yet intuitive interface with local language translation available to add to its overall inclusive theme.
