Inspiration

One of the biggest problems plaguing computer science students is their lack of connection to industry and getting their foot in the door. We wanted to address this issue. Many people within this field have skills but they are unable to find the means to utilise those skills and meet like-minded people within their selected industry.

What it does

JobCapsules encapsulates the job searching and event finding experience within a single website. In essence it is supposed to prepare you to take your first step towards the industry and utilise AI to give you a resume which highlights your experiences in a desirable way for employers.

Our features: A search feature that finds jobs and events according to the keywords mentioned within the job-card and event-card respectively. An AI career recommender which finds a suitable path for you based on your listed skills, interests, education, and years of experience. It has an AI Resume Generator which takes your basic details, portfolio, linkedin, and professional summary to generate a perfect resume for you.

How we built it

The core problem: the difficulty students and professionals face in discovering career opportunities and relevant industry events to meet like-minded people. Our solution aimed to encapsulate these elements into one platform. We utilised Figma & Behance for wireframing and UI design to create an easy to understand website.

Our platform is utilises a combination of third-party APIs and AI tools:

DeepSeek & the OpenRouter API to generate career recommendations and resumes from AI.

The Adzuna API fetches real-time job listings based on keywords and location.

We utilised HTML, CSS for the frontend and Flask / Python for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

Everything. Ideation and finding a tangible solution to real-life problems turned out more difficult than expected. The Github workflow was difficult as the entire team would find themselves constantly in a different point in development. All in all it led to a confusing start where the actual development only began after the half point.

The entire team had limited experience with backend and frontend and we initially assumed we could use APIs from LinkedIn, Eventbrite, Seek, and Indeed, only to later realise they were private. This forced us to create our own datasets and API. Majority of the team have only begun their second year and thus the learning curve was quite steep. Despite the many challenges, we enjoyed the process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learned how to create a solid workflow which is where we actually began to make progress. We are proud of the fact we have a working prototype despite many challenges. We’re glad that with time everyone naturally fell into their positions. Not much discussion was required.

What we learned

The most important thing was getting everyone on the same page, the workflow essentially and identifying what our sub-tasks are to complete the overarching task. As mentioned previously utilising git and resolving the many conflicts, actually understanding why and how it works, and how to incorporate that into a team.

What's next for Job Capsule

Win the next hackathon as well.
