Inspiration

Our inspiration came from the high-energy atmosphere of Cloud9 esports events. We wanted to create a fast-paced game that keeps fans engaged during tournament breaks, merging the competitive spirit of gaming with the powerful development environment provided by JetBrains.

What it does

The project is an "Event Game" titled Cloud9 Reflex Strike. It is a survival-based action game where the player must dodge obstacles and collect "Power-ups" representing JetBrains tools. The game speed increases over time, testing the player's reflexes and focus.

How we built it

We developed the game using Python and the PyGame library. The entire development process was managed using JetBrains PyCharm, which helped us write clean code and debug efficiently. We focused on creating a responsive control system and smooth animations to ensure a high-quality user experience.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was optimizing the game's collision logic to ensure it runs smoothly on different hardware. Additionally, balancing the difficulty curve so that it is challenging but fair for fans of all skill levels required multiple rounds of testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a fully functional game loop within a very short timeframe. Successfully integrating the Cloud9 branding and JetBrains theme into the gameplay mechanics was a major highlight for our team.

What we learned

We learned a lot about rapid prototyping and the importance of using a powerful IDE like JetBrains to speed up the development cycle. We also gained deeper insights into game physics and event-driven programming.

What's next for Cloud9 Reflex Strike

We plan to add a global leaderboard so fans can compete against each other for real prizes. We also aim to introduce more levels based on different esports titles like League of Legends and Valorant.
