Inspiration
We wanted to create something that connects people to nature even while they’re thousands of feet above it. Too often, flying feels disconnected from the planet we’re soaring over. Our idea started with a question: What if a flight wasn’t just a journey between two cities, but also a journey into discovering and protecting our planet? That thought turned into Jet2Discover - a way to make long flights something people actually look forward to.
What it does
Jet2Discover is an in-flight challenge designed to entertain, educate, and inspire passengers. The game runs in three rounds: 1. Mini-game (light, fun, quick) 2. Quiz (nature & sustainability questions) 3. Creative challenge (problem-solving or idea generation)
Players earn points across all rounds. The top scorer in each cabin wins a reward - ideally a free seat upgrade, or if none are available, perks like duty-free vouchers, meal upgrades, lounge access, priority boarding, or future flight credit.
So it’s not just a game. It’s a way to learn, compete, and win rewards while flying.
How we built it
• We started by identifying the pain point: connecting passengers with nature.
• Designed the game structure (3 rounds, point system, leaderboard).
• Used Galileo AI + Figma to quickly prototype the UI and screen flows.
• Designed rewards carefully so the experience feels valuable even without upgrades.
• Designed rewards carefully so the experience feels valuable even without upgrades.
Challenges we ran into
• Balance: Making learning about sustainability exciting instead of lecture-like.
• Fairness: Some people are fast at trivia, others more creative — so we mixed both.
• Rewards: Designing fallback prizes that felt just as exciting as seat upgrades.
• Tech limits: Creating a lightweight system suitable for in-flight entertainment. and adaptable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
• We built a working prototype in a short hackathon timeline.
• Designed an idea that balances fun with learning.
• Came up with a reward structure that feels exciting even without seat upgrades.
• Most of all, turning a flight into an opportunity to make people care more about nature.
What we learned
• Gamification can make even serious themes like sustainability engaging.
• The simplest ideas (“how do we spend our flight time?”) can spark big solutions.
• Inclusivity matters — not everyone enjoys quizzes, so creativity had to count too.
• AI tools accelerate prototyping, but the human storytelling element is what makes it click.
What's next for Jet2Holidays
• Refine the game: More mini-games, varied sustainability themes.
• Destination-based personalization: If you’re flying to Spain, learn about Mediterranean wildlife; if to Iceland, glaciers and oceans.
• Multiplayer / Team Mode: Families and groups can play together, or cabins compete.
• Pilot testing: Trial runs on selected flights to measure passenger engagement.
• Long term: Jet2Discover becomes the airline’s eco-signature, a reason people fly Jet2 not just for holidays, but to connect with nature while traveling.
