Inspiration

We have friends from around the world but are not able to communicate with them that much, and would like to meet more people and make more friends outside of our communities. We remembered the old pen pal system that we used to have when we were younger that had been removed and wanted to bring back that system in a more modern way.

What it does

You take a survey on JAN and based off of your interests and more importantly your age you will be introduced to new people from around the world. You then get to chat with them online and become friends.

How we built it

We used wix.com to design and build our website.

Challenges we ran into

It was hard incorporating some of the elements that we wanted to put in and getting it done in time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to get everything set in motion and done in time.

What we learned

We learned how to work with a team that was just assigned to us with a a common goal to make the project work.

What's next for JAN

One of the main things we want for the website is a program that researches the information given to our servers so we can make sure that the people using this website are actually the audience we intended to target, which are specifically students. We also would like to add a notification system where whenever you you receive messages from your pen pal, you will be notified on convenient devices such as your phone. On the broader side of the spectrum, we want to approach schools with this website and convince them to incorporate this program into their learning system. So instead of reading boring textbooks, students can have a more lively way of learning about other lifestyles around the world. That way they can realize that the things described in books are not just words but real things that kids their age are going through in the other parts of the globe.
