Product Concept
The world is not made for the blind. Our product, Iris, is a wrist-mounted camera that improves the shopping experience for the visually impaired. Currently, blind people have an extremely difficult time when identifying dollar bills and differentiating between similar products at the grocery store. All people deserve an equally informed shopping experience. Simply put, there is no reason for shopping to be so inaccessible. That’s why we created Iris.
To use Iris, a user will simply have to flex their wrist and an audio signal will output what the camera sees. Our product is the best money counting and product identification technology for the visually impaired because of its discreet and convenient profile. Our product is specifically built for both recognizing and tracking money and groceries, differentiating us from expensive all-purpose recognition cameras and single-purpose money identification apps. The product is also low-profile and tactical, making it more fashionable than alternatives.
In the future, we hope that Iris will expand to encompass a full ecosystem of assistive tools for all levels of the visually impaired. Our future plans include expanding our image recognition software to identify all products, characters, brands, and faces with high accuracy and continue to increase the information available to all consumers. All in all, Iris works to keep the shopping experience of the blind in their own hands.
