Inspiration
We wanted to capture the chaotic, high-pressure energy of being a new software engineering intern, running around trying to look productive, fixing bugs you don’t understand, getting random requests thrown at you, and just trying to make it through the day without accidentally breaking production. Everyone at a hackathon has lived through that feeling, so we turned it into a game.
What it does
Intern Insanity is a fast-paced office task speedrun game where you complete as many mini-tasks as possible before time runs out. You’ll unjam printers, resolve coworker drama, reply to emails, fix code bugs, handle surprise AWS outages, and generally try to prove that you deserve to keep your badge. It’s short, silly, chaotic, and very real.
How we built it
- Roblox Studio
- Lua scripting for game logic
- UI mini-games for each task
Challenges we ran into
Balancing chaos and clarity was the hardest part. We wanted the game to feel overwhelming (like real intern life), but not confusing. We also had to make each task completable in under 10–20 seconds while still being funny and meaningful. Pacing and comedic timing took a lot of iteration.
Accomplishments
- We took an idea that made us laugh and actually brought it to life in under 36 hours.
- We designed and balanced multiple mini-game flows on the fly.
- We kept the game polished, readable, and fun without over-scoping.
What we learned
Small tasks become hilarious when combined with clear UI, fast rewards, and chaotic pressure. Humor and pacing are game mechanics.
What's next
Multiplayer, more tasks, progression, and mobile support.
