InLine Bot

Inspiration

We created this bot because we realized there is an issue in the gaming community around normalizing sexual harassment and we wanted to create a way to point out the issue to people. We realized discord was the right place for this because it is the communicational hub for most gamers.

What it does

The bot, when added to a discord server, reads through the messages for buzzwords and phrases. If a message includes those words, it will send a private message to the sender asking them to reconsider their message as well as a message on the channel it was sent to pointing out the possible offensiveness of the message. The point of it is to raise awareness of sexual harassment and how messages can be interpreted in a way that the sender may not have been aware of. By including a link to resources that explain more about sexual harassment and its impacts, we hope to make people reconsider their words and actions.

How I built it

We used the discord bot API and coded in javascript. We uploaded the discord bot to make it addable to channels by becoming a developer on discord which allowed us to link our code to discord servers.
