A service for elderly that helps them not be lonely

Inspiration

We wanted to make a tool with accessibility features that help the elderly who stay far off from the urban areas. This is very common due to the low pension and retirement plan returns.

What it does

Our system does a myriad of tasks including face detection, sentiment analysis, voice actions, and assistant integration to help the elderly not be lonely and help them in their day to day routines.

How we built it

The software is hosted on google cloud and firebase along with the hardware supported on raspberry pi. we have 2 motors and a camera to respond to facial gestures.

Challenges we ran into

The structure. Having basically no tools or SCREWS! we were screwed (yes pun intended!)

Facial detection, google assistant integration something that does move and other hardware

What we learned

We learned that an engineer is as good as their tools.

What's next for Initiate Friend

Getting better structure and a better way of handling backend UI integrations.
