Inspiration
Today in the society, there are so mny biases and so many situations, circumstances and times that one feels the need to escape or reach out for help! It is very difficult to call for help without alarming the people around and gettting into more trouble. Inspired by the concept of 'Angel Shot', where a person who feel threatened in a club setting can reach out for help by asking the bartender for an Angel Shot, The bartender will then escort the person out to safety.
What it does
It comes across as a simple recipe listing application. But there are words, ingredients specifically mapped to different shelters and specific help services. Even though it started as a women focused concept, we realised that this can be helpful to anyone and everyone in need of immediate help.
Everytime someone needs to reach out for help in any circumstance, they can use their smartphone and even when being constantly observed, they can open the recipe application, hence not alarming anyone, and click on the specific ingredients in the listed reipes which map to different helplines and shelters and place a call to that particular helpline.
The list of mapping of the words with their respective shelters and helplines will be shared with the user on signing up.
How we built it
We built it using the Android Studio, auth services and notification services in android. We have used firebase for the backend and mapping.
Challenges we ran into
After a lot of thinking and research on what the basis of the mapping should be we realised the recipes and ingredients to be the safest way to map the helplines and shelters. Mapping and Listing was also done after a lot of thought.
What's next for Ingredient Talk
We want to add an alerting functionality where apart from placing an emergency call, one can alert the nearest shelter/helplines like police their real time location as they move and choose to either be observed until further notice or ask for immediate assistance.
