Inspiration ๐
Our project was inspired by the critical need for early detection of Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) and the rising concern of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). We aimed to create a solution that enhances patient safety by enabling timely alerts for potential wound infections.
What it does ๐ก
SurgiSafe is a wearable device designed to monitor wounds by detecting moisture, temperature, and pH levels in real time. This device provides crucial data, enabling early alerts for patients and healthcare providers, which can help prevent serious infections.
How we built it ๐ง
We built the device using Arduino for hardware and various components for data processing and sensor integration. We incorporated sensors to measure moisture, temperature, and pH levels, creating a user-friendly interface to display the information. Our goal was to ensure that the device is comfortable and practical for everyday wear.
Challenges we ran into โ๏ธ
Throughout the project, we encountered challenges such as ensuring accurate sensor readings and designing a device that was both functional and comfortable. Integrating the hardware components smoothly required some problem-solving, and thorough testing was essential to validate our approach.
Accomplishments that we're proud of ๐
Working Prototype: Developed a functional prototype that effectively monitors wound conditions, showcasing our ability to create practical solutions.
Skill Development: Two of our four members were beginners, and their fresh perspectives enhanced our project, proving that anyone can contribute and learn.
Sensor Integration: Successfully navigated challenges with sensor integration, gaining valuable troubleshooting skills along the way.
Collaboration: Leveraged each team memberโs strengths to foster open communication and tackle obstacles efficiently.
What we learned ๐
This experience highlighted the importance of collaboration and adaptability in engineering projects. We gained insights into sensor integration, data processing, and the significance of user-centered design in creating health tech solutions.
What's next for SurgiSafe ๐
Looking ahead, we plan to refine our prototype based on user feedback and conduct further testing in clinical environments. Weโre excited to enhance the device's accuracy and explore partnerships with healthcare providers for real-world implementation. Our vision includes expanding features to include data analytics and remote monitoring capabilities.
