💡 Inspiration

We wanted to make an exclusive zero bias personal finance management and banking system for people of marginalized genders where managing your finances feels like a collective community experience with accounts, transactions and businesses of people of your community.
Have a streamlined, hawk eye view of all the financial statements and transactions streamlined into a single platform powered by Capital One API.

🛠️ What it does

Our personal finance management system, powered by Capital One API, has the ability to create an account and assign various finance tracking identities to ensure you know your finances right. Housing customer ID that represents your identity as the customer of the bank, Account ID that houses all the expenses done on your savings account plus accommodating all the financial statements for it and lastly having Loan ID that helps you to filter your loan expenses and get loans on an instant along with tracking all of it in one place.

📉 Company Gender Wage

since our platform is focused on personal finance, we made sure to include the wage gaps among various genders in companies
raising awareness about the worth of yourself and the community is an extremely crucial step
there are many existing biases and wage gap problems that aren't discussed, and neither awareness is spread about
we as a personal finance platform want to also raise awareness about the possible wage gaps companies in your field of career can have

🔨 How we built it

Capital One API powers our platform by giving:

easily generate banking account for every user when they sign up
easy API integration
merchant details
transaction details
bill generation
various account IDs

We were able to make our platform more functional and provide realistic and relevant details through Capital One API.

🏁 Challenges we ran into

Since a lot of the software products do not focus on gender inclusivity, it was pretty hard for us to get a reference for our project.
Finding the right dataset for the company-to-company gender wage gap was difficult.
Unsurprisingly, we were also met with a lot of disappointment regarding how little information and awareness there was for our community.
We had quite a lot of issues integrating the Capital One API.
The API uses HTTP protocol and doesn't have an update to use HTTPS, so trying to request the API from a web app served over HTTPS, the requests fail. It took us a hell lot amount of time to figure out how to make it run on the web over HTTPS, all programmatic options failed.
We had to manually enable and allow Insecure Content for the website, after which we were able to use it from the browser.
Maybe later we could proxy the requests through our own proxy server, which would be over HTTPS, and under the hood would request from the HTTP Capital One Hackathon API.
The Capital One Hackathon API uses Open API to document itself, which is good, as we can generate our own custom clients over that specification.
But, unfortunately, the schema of the API is relatively old, which breaks it with today's toolings.
We dedicated our day to learning and making it work with the Open API spec, which didn't work in the end, because the API requires the authentication token in the request query, so we made our own wrapper manually and used it!

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to make a fully functional product within this deadline with a lot of challenges and hurdles.
Being able to give back to the community by providing for our community, a personal finance platform, since we are extremely aware of how us and our community faces discrimination, bias and has lack of representation in various fields.
Through this hackathon, we not felt empowered but also proud to give a critical software back to our community that deals with sensitive topics like monetary details and finance management.

📝 What we learned

By building our project, we were able to understand the importance of financial literacy, a topic that isn't discussed due to its critical nature.
We became aware about the biases and unfair trades that go on happening with our community, we are happy to say that our platform provides a means to raise awareness about it along with aiding in it.
