Inspiration
We settled on making a game as soon as we saw that option. Inspiration was taken from previous games we made for school in the last two years: the starting point was this game. From there, we decided to make a stealth game and add shooting.
What it does
It's a game you can play. See readme
How we built it
We originally thought to work with the starting point game's code, as we were all familiar with javascript game development. However, at some point we decided to use an engine to avoid the hassle of figuring out client-server replication and an efficient physics engine. I don't know if this turned out to be the faster choice.
Challenges we ran into
Collaboration was very difficult since there's no support for live collaboration, and we had to separately develop features and manually merge them. But the hardest part by far is figuring out how to work with the engine. We didn't know the exact features that the engine provided, so we had to skim through lots of online resources when trying to implement anything. Lots of bugs were made.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning how to use the game engine on the spot.
What we learned
Maybe stick with what you know for the next hackathons.
