Inspiration

I handle hundreds of emails, Google searches, and prompts daily. To ensure high-quality searches, I must copy the text, open Claude, paste it, prompt it for improvement, and then copy it back. This process consumes cognitive energy and time, which I could save with a more efficient solution.

What It Does

IMPROV is a Chrome extension that enables users to use pre-created prompts. When text is highlighted, a pop-up appears that applies the prompt and pastes the result directly into the email. Users can highlight an email, request a response, and create custom prompts with the click of a button.

How We Built It

I developed IMPROV using Cursor and OpenAI by creating a Chrome extension through the developer tools on my computer.

Challenges Faced

At 3:00 PM, I pivoted after switching between platforms to optimize my time. My previous idea was too expensive, and I encountered issues of constantly switching platforms and submitting sub-par prompts while developing that product.

Accomplishments We Are Proud Of

I am proud of the time this tool has saved me. I quickly assembled it and timed how long it takes to reply to my unread inbox, managing to respond to over seven emails in less than three minutes. (I used IMPROV while submitting this application.

Lessons Learned

This is my first development project under a time constraint, which was insightful. I learned how to develop an application from end to end, and I will soon publish the Chrome extension for other users, who will need to enter their own API keys to minimize my costs.

Next Steps for IMPROV

The next step for IMPROV is to implement smart prompting, allowing the prompts to accurately assess goals, context, and optimize output. (Currently, it only runs locally until I get approval from Chrome Extension for others to try.)
