Inspiration
We wanted to inspire creativity in the community.
What it does
It uses a live real time database hosted by Firebase to allow multiple people to edit the story - however they can only see the line above theirs, not the whole story, which leads to twists and turns. There's also web scraping to find interesting prompts on the web, as well as use of Firebase online storage and calls to archive and view past stories.
How we built it
See above
Challenges we ran into
There were many bugs, as well as designing the original structure. We did not have any experience with Firebase and only one member had experience with Android.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to create an app well out of our comfort zone and learn several valuable skills across multiple platforms along the way.
What we learned
We learned how to use firebase, pull from specific databases and manipulate them, make calls to and from online storage to a device, scrape data from webpages, and lots of android syntax.
What's next for Illuminode
We would have liked to add accounts so that users could view their past stories and contributions. We were considering doing an alternative approach using a tree rather than an arraylist to show many different viewpoints and diverging paths, which would be interesting for politics and social discussions.
