Inspiration
As a boy scout, I was initially inspired for this project when deciding on what I should do for my eagle project. Instead of building something like everyone else, I wanted to help my community in another way and decided to focus on the elderly. They are one of the most ignored groups when it comes to anything technology-related. Elderly people often have trouble figuring out and adjusting to all the new, recent advancements in technology, especially without many resources to help them. Many are stuck alone in retirement homes, with technology as their only way to reach their families, and yet they are still so unfamiliar with it. That is where ihelp comes in.
What it does
ihelp is a platform (currently mocked up as a website but can absolutely be an app as well) that's main purpose is to serve as a hub for learning about basic technology, with easily accessible tutorials and clear explanations. For example, if a senior wanted to know how to use a browser like Google or even what a browser was, they would visit ihelp, and select "browser" from a list of different topics to learn about (not mocked up). This would have informational videos, explanations, and even direct links to something like Google, so the senior would not have to go and look it up themself. This can be expanded to include a multitude of subjects, such as browsers, photos, the app store, or even something as simple as how to change your wallpaper. The possibilities are endless, and with an easy-to-navigate interface, it will be simple to find what one is looking for.
What's next for ihelp
Ideally, the development of ihelp will be continued to turn it from a mockup and ambitious idea to a real service that can help thousands of seniors feel more comfortable with the technology they carry in their pockets, and reconnect them with their families again.
