Inspiration
Our inspiration comes from the growing social phenomenon where financial freedom, budgeting, and responsible money habits are becoming more popular and admired, especially on social media. More people are not only trying to manage their money better, but also striving to go beyond the standard practice of simply saving. We wanted to create an experience that lets users actually see their money grow, feel rewarded by their progress, and build a community where financial achievements, goals, and milestones can be shared and celebrated together.
What it does
iBudget offers the best of both worlds: all the essential tools users need to budget, track expenses, and plan their finances, whether they are managing money alone or with a partner. It also supports people in debt by helping them track and simulate payments so they can better understand their situation and plan a path toward financial freedom.
What makes the app stand out, however, is that it transforms budgeting from a stressful and negative experience into one that feels interactive, rewarding, and motivating. By connecting users through the platform, iBudget builds a community where people can share their progress, celebrate their accomplishments, and challenge themselves in a healthy way to stay consistent with their financial goals.
How we built it
We built iBudget through an iterative prototyping process, first focusing on evaluating the best ways to create a meaningful and rewarding user experience. From the beginning, our goal was to make the app as intuitive, smooth, and natural as possible. We wanted users to feel guided through a positive journey rather than overwhelmed by the usual stress associated with budgeting.
To bring the prototype to life, we used React (TypeScript), since the current version is a web-based prototype. At the same time, with our technical background in software development, we also evaluated the broader technical implementation and developed a clear plan for the full development of the mobile application.
What's next for iBudget
iBudget is first and foremost a community-focused platform. The roadmap we plan to follow centers on the continued development and improvement of the MoneyTree experience within the app. This feature is our main hook and the key element that sets us apart from more traditional budgeting tools.
The MoneyTree creates value beyond basic financial management. Even when users no longer feel the need to actively budget, they still have a reason to stay engaged with the app. It helps us build long-term user loyalty by offering more than utility alone: it creates a genuine social experience tied to progress, motivation, and a positive state of mind.
