Inspiration
One of our team members, Hakan, is suspected of having ADHD. During this process, he was on denial. However, when he was researching ADHD, he realized that 6% of the US and 5% of the world have ADHD. That is why helping people with their ADHD struggles is important. It affects so many individuals' productivity, daily tasks, and general life quality, which is also a global efficiency problem. Generating an AI chatbot that is accessible through messages helps people of many ages, countries, and income levels.
What it does
Accessed through a link or QR Code through our website, HyperFocus sends you a text message to your phone number and allows you to chat with it regarding efficiency, procrastination, dividing tasks into smaller goals, and helpful mental health links.
How we built it
We were initially creating a chatbot ourselves using OpenAI, but after seeing that Msg2Ai does a similar job to ours, and is a category itself, we decided to train their model according to ADHD, and run for Msg2Ai and non-code categories. We built a website for our goal and chatbot, and trained the bot with many articles on ADHD, different websites, and common scenarios.
Challenges we ran into
We are still freshmen at Davidson, and this was our first Hackathon, so were kind of clueless at the start of the event. Other issues we faced were communication problems with Msg2Ai, and it being a new business, not being developed fully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of completing our first Hackathon and delivering a working project despite the issues along the way.
What we learned
We learned how to work with API keys, and how they can be integrated into a code, to access from an exterior tool.
What's next for HyperFocus
We are going to focus on the code part of the project more. We are planning to make this into an app ourselves, with our code that runs a chatbot integrated into it, which will give us space for more flexibility and creativity. We are planning to integrate Google Calendar API into our bot and allow HyperFocus to recommend events, and create special schedules designed for ADHD diagnosis. We want to add a point-based system that gamifies the process to be more engaging for the users.
